Darren Lum shows the ordinary in an entirely new light with every frame he shoots.
His refreshing blend of artistic and technically executed photos have been recognized by professional peers from coast to coast, earning him numerous awards and accolades by the Canadian Community Newspapers Association and the Ontario Community Newspapers Association.
What started as a hobby with his father's Nikon F camera has evolved into a full-time passion and love affair. This self-taught photographer has been shooting professionally for several years as a staff photographer with newspapers and magazines in Ontario.
Currently, he works as a reporter/photographer/videographer for Muskokan newspapers: The Bracebridge Examiner, The Gravenhurst Banner, and The Huntsville Forester. Last year Darren was a part-time instructor of news photography for the Journalism program at Humber College in Toronto.
As Director of Photography, Darren was part of a team of artists that completed a four minute animated short called Flip Book. Compiled of several thousand photographic stills, the short was broadcasted on Bravo Television as part of their BravoFacts! lineup in 2007-2008.
His clients include The Toronto Star, The Toronto Sun, Ontario Out of Doors magazine, and Metroland publications. The list of clients has included Osprey Media newspapers such as The Kingston Whig Standard and The Barrie Examiner.
Darren is based in Bracebridge, but is available for freelance work in Central and Southern Ontario when the assignment is not in conflict with the full-time schedule.
